Cardiff GF
Celiac-safe chicken pot pie, gravy and mash from Pieminister in the Cardiff main city center!
If you're planning a trip to Cardiff to explore this charming city, you'll be thrilled to know that Cardiff has some fantastic gluten-free options (surprisingly, considering how small of a region it is!). Here’s a recap of my gluten-free culinary adventures in Cardiff, leading up to an amazing Harry Styles concert (the reason for our visit, funny enough!).
Hilton Hotel Cardiff
Starting my day at the Hilton Hotel Cardiff was great. The hotel breakfast staff were knowledgeable and happy to accommodate my dietary needs.
What I got:
GF Eggs: Prepared fresh in the back kitchen to avoid any contamination from the buffet.
Cardiff Markets: Noglu
For lunch and a bit of shopping, we headed to the bustling Cardiff Markets. On the bottom floor, you’ll find Noglu, an entirely gluten-free bakery and lunch spot, which was an amazing find!
What I Ordered:
Brownies, Cookies, and Bars
Savory Arepas and Empanadas
Noglu is a must-visit for anyone needing safe, gluten-free options while exploring the market, one of the gluten-free highlights of this small town.
Pieminister
However, the #1 highlight of my trip was definitely Pieminister in downtown Cardiff. This place not only offered a separate gluten-free menu but also had staff who were very knowledgeable on celiac-safe meal prep.
What I Ordered:
GF Pie and Mash: A UK/Wales cuisine classic featuring free-range British chicken, ham, leek, and thyme, with delicious mashed potatoes.
Variety of Sides: Options included garden peas, smoky baked beans, slaw, fries, cheesy mash, and halloumi on a stick (some things I had never tried before/never been able to order before!).
Cardiff Arcades
Finally, for some more shopping and potential snacks, the Cardiff Arcades are worth a visit. While I didn’t eat there, I passed by several cafes and eateries that looked promising for gluten-free options.
GF Snacks and Salads: Many cafes seemed to offer safe gluten-free snacks and salads, making it a good spot for a quick lunch while shopping.
Conclusion
Cardiff might be a small city, but it offers a bunch of gluten-free dining options that made my trip both enjoyable and safe.
