Amsterdam GF

GF Nutella, strawberry, and meringue dutch pancakes from Pancakes Amsterdam!

Whether you're a teen like myself or just young at heart, get ready to explore some Amsterdam eats that are 100% celiac safe.

Breakfast at Hilton Amsterdam

We stayed at the Hilton Amsterdam. The Hilton Amsterdam has got Celiac-safe breakfast covered with an array of fresh fruits, crisp vegetables, and a delightful selection of cheeses. You can also order a gluten-free vegetable omelet or a fried egg from the menu, and it will be cooked on a clean pan just for you.

Pancakes Amsterdam

Next up, breakfast or lunch at Pancakes Amsterdam! This place is a must-visit with multiple locations all over the city, making it super convenient. They have a dedicated gluten-free menu, just ask your waiter! Your sweet or savory authentic Dutch-style pancakes will come out with a miniature flag to signify they are celiac safe. Make sure to try both sweet options like the Nutella, strawberries, bananas, meringue, and chocolate sauce pancake, and savory ingredients like chicken and veggies- these unique pancakes were delicious and authentic. I felt very safe and taken care of when eating at this restaurant- we even came back a second time!

De Italiaan: Pizza

For dinner, head over to De Italiaan for (maybe) the second-best gluten-free pizza you'll ever have (second only to Italy, of course). Pair it with a fresh salad, and you've got yourself a perfect meal. After dinner, make sure you stop by Miuz Gelato, which is just a short 7-8 minute walk away. This place is a dedicated gluten-free gelateria, cones included! Enjoy authentic Italian gelato in a gluten-free cone, and make sure to try the amazing frozen tiramisu (which is not something us gluten-free folks can have frequently!)

Foodhallen Market: Tons of GF Options

The Foodhallen indoor food market offers an array of snacks and meals from around the world- Mexican, Vietnamese, Japanese, American, Greek, crepes, bakeries, and more! The best celiac-safe option here is Fento, which is entirely GF. The owner has celiac, so they know exactly how to prepare safe, gluten-free food, and almost everything on their menu is naturally gluten-free. I loved their chicken nachos! The sushi stand here was also safe and gluten-free, and I loved trying all the fruits, nuts, cheeses and chocolates that are naturally gluten-free at all the market stands.

Cafe Piazza

For your next dinner, head to Cafe Piazza for an authentic Italian experience. They have a dedicated gluten-free menu and take special care with your order. You'll get a dedicated set of plates and a special napkin to indicate that you have Celiac, not just a gluten intolerance or preference. The gluten-free cacio e pepe pasta was amazing- tasted just like what I had in Italy! make sure to try their GF bruschetta and finish with their tiramisu or a chocolate lava cake for dessert. Delicious!

Fabel Friets: Trendy French Fries

Fabel Friets french fries, which went viral on Tik Tok and are a go-to tourist spot, are naturally gluten-free and cooked in dedicated oil, with most of their sauces being GF as well. The parmesan truffle fries are especially popular, there was a line out the door! Just double-check with the staff to avoid the two gluten-containing sauces.

Craft Coffee and Pastry Bakery

Last but certainly not least, the gluten-free gem of Amsterdam: Craft Coffee and Pastry bakery. This dedicated gluten-free bakery was the highlight of my trip to the Netherlands. I had my first-ever gluten-free croissant here (something I hadn’t had since before I was 4 years old when I was diagnosed!). They had almond, chocolate, and plain, all of which were warm, soft, flaky, buttery, and amazing. They also had loaves of bread, baguettes, muffins, Dutch butter cakes, mini pies, stroopwafels, and cookies. It’s one of the best gluten-free bakery I’ve visited for sure- up there with those in London, Paris, and Italy!

Remember, traveling with Celiac Disease doesn’t have to be stressful or impossible- with a little planning and some insider tips, you can have a worry-free adventure. :)

Feel free to sign up for the email list, or email me directly, if you have any questions about Celiac-safe travel in Vietnam or could use any further guidance!
